Sheriff’s office still unable to ID body found in Warrior River near Oak Grove

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is still unable to identify the body recovered Wednesday from the Warrior River near Oak Grove.

The remains were discovered at about 3 p.m. Wednesday after a fisherman called to report the body, which was in the river at the end of Smiths Camp Road.

Deputies requested the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit to assist in recovering the body.

The sheriff’s office said today that the body is “in such a decomposed state it was not possible to determine any sign of foul play, gender or race. We are waiting on the medical examiner’s report to make those determinations.”

Investigators are checking missing persons reports in Jefferson County and in surrounding areas for possibilities or leads.
