Corner opened up the game with four hits and a sacrifice fly that brought home three runs in the fourth inning, and then held off a Curry rally to win 5-3 in Thursday baseball action.
After Kevin Bryant and Cody Gilbert got on board with base hits, Jack Robbins brought in Bryant on a sac fly. Gilbert scored from second on a Kerry Smith hit, then Smith stole second and scored on a Blake Byrd line-drive hit to left field.
Corner had put up single runs in the second and third innings. Josh Walker scored after hitting a lead-off triple, and came in on a ground-out to first by Dillon McCaleb. Smith scored in the third off a Seth Merchant single.
Walker, the starting pitcher, was mowing through the Curry order until the fifth inning. After racking up nine strikeouts against two hits, Curry’s lead-off hitter reacehd on an error, then Walker gave up two walks to load the bases. Coach Josh Hoyle too Walker out for reliever Chris Huff, who gave up a two-run single by Landon Freeman, but then got out of the jam.
Huff got in trouble in the seventh when he walked the first two batters. Hoyle put in Logan Chappel, who allowed one run but otherwise stopped the threat.
Bryant was 2-for-3 and Smith 2-for-4 at the plate for Corner. Harbin Houston had two hits in four at-bats for Curry.
