The host team swept through its three games Saturday in the Locust Fork Softball Tournament.
The Hornets blasted Hanceville 11-4 in four innings, routed Cleveland 9-2 in four, and edged West End 3-1 in five innings. (All games were under time limits.)
In the win over Hanceville, Locust Fork blew the game open with six runs in the second inning, topped by a two-run single by Shelby Hancock. Haley Glasscox was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Pitcher Bailey McCay went three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four.
Against Cleveland, the Hornets scored eight runs in the second inning. Christian Rhodes led off the rally with a home run to right field, and Montana Armstrong lined a single to center that brought in two runs. Jamie Gail Hudson and Anna Hood also hit run-scoring singles.
Hudson relieved starter Anna Hood, who got in trouble early. Hudson went 2-1/3 innings, allowing just one hit and no walks.
In the closing game against West End, Tailor Massey’s double to center field was the difference, scoring two runs in the second inning.
Rhodes double in the first moved Massey to third; she scored on a fielder’s choice. The Patriots scored their only run on a bases-loaded hit batsman by Hudson, who was then relieved by Rhodes. The reliever went 3-1/3 innings, striking out eight and giving up just one hit.
