Baseball: Gardendale 5, Clay-Chalkville 3

Chris Blakey’s two-run single helped push Gardendale past Clay-Chalkville 5-3 in the second day of the Jefferson County Schools Baseball Tournament.
Carter Burns pitched five no-hit innings and struck out seven, but still had to survive a by the Cougars in the third inning, in which they scored three runs on two walks and a pair of errors.
Burns combines with reliever Chris Walton to hold Clay to just one hit, an single by Jordan Rutter in the seventh inning.
Hayden Moore took the loss for the Cougars, despite striking out eight batters and allowing just four hits; Clay committed five errors in the game.
Zakk Morton also hit an RBI single for the Rockets (7-2), who host Corner in Wednesday’s pool-play tournament game. Clay hosts Center Point.
