Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a woman on several charges, including attempted murder.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian said that Nina Queena Taylor, 31 of Quinton, Ala., broke into the house of her ex-boyfriend, located just south of the new Interstate 22 near the Brookside/Cherry Avenue exit in Forestdale. The incident happened at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The ex-boyfriend and another female inside the house were sprayed by Taylor with a chemical defense spray, Christian said, then Taylor pulled a gun that the male victim kept under a mattress and threatened to kill him and his companion. The companion fled and called 911, but heard a gunshot as she ran.

Christian said his investigators believe that Taylor started the incident by banging on the ex-boyfriend’s door; when he recognized Taylor and refused to answer, Taylor allegedly broke in through a window.

When deputies arrived, Taylor was holding the gun in one hand and the defense spray in the other. She dropped both and was arrested without further incident.

Christian said investigators believe Taylor broke into the female victim’s car and took her cell phone to keep the victims from calling 911, and that Taylor shot out the car’s windshield.

Taylor is charged with domestic violence, unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, second-degree assault, menacing, criminal mischief, criminal use of defense spray, first degree burglary, robbery and attempted murder. She is held in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of total bond of $59,000.
