- Officials and staff from Gardendale city government look on as Mayor Othell Phillips cuts the ribbon to officially open the new Public Safety Center on Thursday. The new center is home to the police department, city jail and municipal court, and is also where the city council now holds its meetings. The center is located in the former Food World building on Decatur Highway.
It’s been open and in use for several weeks, but Gardendale’s new Public Safety Center had its official grand opening Thursday morning.
Officials and staff from all parts of city government gathered as Mayor Othell Phillips cut the ceremonial ribbon outside the new facility.
Afterward, members of the public were taken in groups of four and given tours of the inside of the center, including police headquarters and jail facilities.
The Public Safety Center is housed in the former Food World building on Decatur Highway. It replaces the part of the functions of the former City Hall on Main Street, which has since been demolished to make room for a new CVS drug store.
