Gardendale clinched their Class 6A girls basketball regular-season area championship Friday night with a decisive 45-33 win at Hewitt-Trussville.

Center Chelsey Deloney scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, point guard Caroline Casaday grabbed nine rebounds and forward Chelsea Robinson oulled down eight boards for the Rockets (15-4, 5-0 area).

“We played well and overcame some injuries, as well as a tough crowd, to oull out the win,” coach Amy Barnett said.

DeeDee Jones led the Huskies with 16 points.

The win gives Gardendale home-court advantage in the upcoming area tournament. They move on into the Jefferson County Schools Tournament next week at Shades Valley.
