A week after a Gardendale pastor was charged with the murder of his wife and attempted murder of his daughter, the church has a new, interim pastor at the pulpit.
The North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church has appointed Dr. Bill Bostick as interim pastor of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Bostick and his wife Penny served the church from 1979 to 1986, according to a letter the church emailed to members.
Police say the church’s pastor, Dr. Terry Greer, shot his wife Lisa, 52, and daughter Suzanna, 18, on Jan. 10 at their home in Gardendale, which is the church parsonage. Lisa Greer died early Friday of her wounds. Her funeral was Tuesday.
Suzanna has been released from the hospital.
Bostick will be stepping in as church members and the Gardendale community heal from the tragedy.
“Bill Bostick is known for his preaching and leadership skills. He will be an asset to the church,” the letter stated. “Please be in prayer for Bill and Penny Bostick as they return to the Gardendale-Mt. Vernon church to offer leadership and guidance at this important time.”
After serving at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon, Bostick was appointed at Tuscaloosa First UMC and then at Huntsville First UMC. He also served as Florence district superintendent and Decatur district superintendent.
“He retired in 2006, but continued to serve full-time in a pastoral role at Vestavia Hills UMC until last year,” according to the letter.
