Locust Fork built up an early lead, then held on as Guntersville put on a fourth-quarter rally, escaping with a 52-47 victory in girls basektball action Tuesday.
The Wildcats’ late charge was led almost single-handedly by Bethany Langner, who scored all of her 15 points in the final period. She hit three 3-point goals, and was 4-for-4 at the foul line.
But that was not enough to overcome the 10th-ranled Hornets (15-3), who were led by Kristen Cox with 19 points plus four steals, and Kasi McMillan with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Morgan Gaston scored 13 points and Elizabeth Bridges added 12 for Guntersville (7-13),
Locust Fork faces its stiffest test of the season Friday night, as they travel to top-ranked Oneonta.
