Hello, Tuesday…

Weather: Storms roll in. The great weather couldn’t last forever, alas, and showers and thunderstorms move into the area this afternoon. High temperatures will reach the lower 70s, with lows tonight in the middle 50s and highs Wednesday in the upper 60s. Rain chances are 40 percent this afternoon, 80 percent tonight and 40 percent Wednesday morning.

The feeling isn’t mutual. The Warrior City Council has decided to investigate an incident last week where the fire department responded to a call in Blount County, ostensibly on a mutual-aid request, though that request is no in question. During that call, no one was left at the station to respond to a call for medical help at a local residence; the call was for Bill Hudson, wife of former mayor Rena Hudson. Mayor Johnny Ragland and Mayor Pro Tempore Jackie Wesson — chair of the fire committee and also Hudson’s daughter — will meet with fire department personnel in a work session next Monday to discuss policies on responding to mutual-aid calls.

First regs for Obamacare.  The IRS handed down a stack of regulations regarding income from capital gains and dividends late Friday, known in Washington circles as a “document dump” — the practice of unloading a large amount of unfavorable information after reporters and political opponents have left for the weekend. The new rules determine the effect of a 3.8 percent surtax on investment income for individuals with $200,000 or more in modified adjusted gross income ($250,000 for couples), which is part of the Affordable Health Care Act, better known as Obamacare.

Sports: RG3-mendous. Robert Griffin III made his debut appearance on Monday Night Football, and made quite the impression as he led the Washington Redskins to a 17-16 win over Eli Manning and the New York Giants. Griffin fumbled the ball, but it was caught in the air by Joshua Morgan, who ran in for the touchdown. Griffin ran for 72 yards, breaking Cam Newton’s NFL record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback… College football: Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has interviewed for Auburn’s head coaching job, The Tuscaloosa News is reporting. Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris is also scheduled to be interviewed. The Tigers’ search committee is reportedly holding these interviews in Nashville… College basketball: For the first time since John Calipari took over as coach, Kentucky is not in the Associated Press Top 25. The Wildcats fell from eighth place to out of the poll after consecutive losses to Notre Dame and Baylor. Last week, UCLA fell almost as far, dropping out from 11th place…
