Gardendale city council changes meeting place; hosts reception
The Gardendale City Council will meet Nov. 5, 6 p.m., at the Gardendale Civic Center’s exhibition hall. Following the meeting, where members of the new council will be sworn in, there will be a reception for the new council. The reception is open to the public. Beginning Nov. 19, the city council will start meeting at the courtroom in the Public Safety Center on Decatur Highway until a new city hall is built.
Hayden Lions Club hosting breakfast
The Hayden Lions Club is hosting a breakfast Nov. 3, 7-10 a.m. in the Hayden Middle School cafeteria. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 10. The menu will include eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, gravy, biscuits and pancakes. Coffee, milk or orange juice is also included.
Book signing Thursday
Hollis Hughes, author of “Mindful of Him,” will be signing copies of his book Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Family Christian Store in Fultondale.
Chief suggests donate to firefighter fund
Mt. Olive Fire Chief Chip Cousins urges residents to check the box on their property tax notices to donate $2 to the Alabama Firefighters Annuity and Benefit Fund.
“It only increases your tax payment by $2 and it helps firefighters, especially in smaller departments that don’t offer benefits or retirement for employees,” Cousins said. “It’s a really good thing but nobody knows about it.”
