Pinson Valley came into Hayden looking to turn its once-promising season around, and got back into the win column with a 29-9 victory over the still-winless Wildcats.
Wide receiver Earnest Robinson, who’s committed verbally to Auburn, scored two touchdowns on passes from Brooks Garrett.
The Indians took the opening drive and drove 68 yards for a score on a 1-yard run by Jeffery Blair. Dylan Middleton’s point after gave the Indians and early 7-0 lead.
On Hayden’s first possession, Pinson’s Zac Cunningham broke through the line and blocked a Hayden punt out of the end zone for a safety midway through the first quarter.
Hayden got on the scoreboard with 6:15 to go in the half on a 26-yard field goal by Dylan Putnam. Pinson answered on the ensuing drive, as Robinson hauled in a 14-yard pass from Garrett for the score. Middleton’s point after extended the lead to 16-3 with four minutes on the second-quarter clock.
The Wildcats received the second half kick off and drove into the red zone, but the Indians defense was up to the task and stopped the home team on the 22. Pinson wasted little time, as Garrett found Dylan Evans for 31 yards and a score. The two-point conversion failed when Garrett’s pass fell incomplete.
After forcing a Hayden punt, the Indians put the game out of reach on a 30-yard pass from Garrett to Robinson with just under three minutes left in the third quarter.
The Wildcats added a score late in the game when quarterback Corey Ward hooked up with receiver Luke Wall for 43 yards. The kick failed, but the Cats had cut the lead to 29-9 with five minutes to go in the game.
Ward was 27-for-46 for 243 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. Wall had six catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Presley Niblett had six catches for 47 yards.
The loss drops Hayden to 0-4, and 0-3 in region play. They play arch-rival Corner on the road next week.
