Wednesday, and you’re halfway through the work week…
Weather: Still sunny. We continue a pattern of dry, sunny days and cooler nights. Highs today and tomorrow will be in the upper 80s, perhaps climbing to 90, with nighttime lows in the lower 60s. No rain is in the forecast until the weekend.
Fultondale man charged in murder. Birmingham Police have now identified the man who surrendered to authorities after a murder of an elderly man in Ensley. Abron S. Tinsley of Fultondale was arrested Friday and charged Tuesday with murder in the death of Frank White. Police said Tinsley turned himself in shortly after White was found dead in his home on July 29.
It wasn’t Jethro Gibbs. The man arrested for impersonating an agent of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service last week has been identified as a member of the Morris Planning and Zoning Board. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office declined to release the name because of personal circumstances detailed in the arrest report, but The North Jefferson News has independently verified from two sources that the suspect is Richard Lee “Ric” Segers, 44, listed as a Warrior resident. Segers was pulled over for speeding by deputies near Brookside; the sheriff’s office said he told them he was an NCIS agent working with the federal Counter-Terrorism Unit, conducting surveillance on a house in McDonald’s Chapel. Segers’ ID cards were determined to be fake, and he was found to have four guns and a pair of handcuffs in his possession. Segers remains jailed in lieu of bond.
Sports: Mal Moore hospitalized. The University of Alabama said Tuesday that its long-time athletic director is hospitalized for observation at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, after suffering from an irregular heartbeat. In a press release, Moore’s doctor said the admittance was a precautionary measure, and that the 72-year-old former assistant coach under Paul “Bear” Bryant is doing fine… Baseball: Roger Clemens can’t stay away from the game. The 50-year-old All-Star pitcher has signed on to play with the Sugar Land, Texas Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League. He is scheduled to take mound next Monday in a game against Bridgeport, Conn. Clemens hasn’t pitched in more than five years; he most recently was found not guilty of lying to Congress regarding testimony about steroid use.
