Another Monday, another work week…
Weather: Storms possible. There’s about a one-in-three chance you’ll see a scattered thunderstorm today and tonight, with an afternoon high near 90 degrees and a nighttime low around 70. More of the same Tuesday afternoon, with showers ending Tuesday night.
Ryan is the choice. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney chose Wisconsin seven-term Congressman Paul Ryan to be his vice presidential running mate over the weekend. Romney introduced Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee and is known for his budget-cutting policies, in a ceremony at the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, Va. on Saturday morning.
Anniston boy kidnapped. Police are looking for a 5-year-old boy who was abducted from his home in Anniston on Sunday night. Michiri Zaquae Dabney was taken away by a black male driving a white van with a black stripe. Dabney is black, about three feet tall and weighs 60 pounds. If see a boy matching this description, call Anniston Police at 256-238-1800.
Sports: USA! USA! The Summer Olympics ended Sunday night in London, with the Unites States winning the overall count of gold and overall medals over China. The American Men’s basketball team took home the gold for the 14th time since the game has been played at the Olympics, defeating Spain 107-100 in a game that found the Spaniards — led by three NBA All-Stars including the Pasol brothers — trailing by only a point at the end of three quarters. USA women dominated overall, winning golds in soccer, basketball, beach volleyball and team gymnastics …. Football: Wide receiver Chad Johnson — you may remember him as Chad Ochocinco — was cut by the Miami Dolphins after being arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery, after his wife of one month accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home over the weekend. Johnson was trying to revive a flagging career, after a disappointing year with the Patriots last season…. NASCAR: Marcus Ambrose won on the road course at Watkins Glen in spectacular fashion Sunday, passing Brad Keselowski in the final laps of the Finger Lakes 355 after Kyle Bush hit a patch of oil. It was Ambrose’s second straight win at The Glen. Jimmie Johnson took over the points lead…. Golf: At Kiawah Island, S.C., Rory McIlroy won the PGA Championship by a record eight strokes. It’s his second major in as many years. Tiger Woods faded late and finished in a six-way tie for 11th place.
