Gardendale teams win Dizzy Dean state championships

- The Gardendale Maroon 6-year-old All-Stars recently won the Alabama Dizzy Dean Championship, and finished fifth at the Dizzy Dean World Series. The team finished with a 22-2 record for the season. Team members include Cody Vance, Caden McGruder, Peyton Willet, Lawson Hughes, Donovan Marshall, Colby Smith, Ty McGraw, Q.B. Reese, Coleman Maldonado, Briar Dodson and Stephen Stricker. The team was coached by Brian Hughes, assisted by Ron Hughes, Eric Smith and Micah Vance.
Two local youth baseball teams recently won Dizzy Dean state championships in their age groups.

The Gardendale Maroon 7-year-old All-Stars also won their state crown. The team includes Bubba Wood, Grant Chandler, Jackson Burdette, Kyle Norris, Brooks Sapone, Will Waldrop, Bryson Barnes, K.C. Pesnell, Connor Mims, Connor Hensley, and Nathaniel Kennedy. Hensley was selected as the tournament MVP.
Ryan Hensley is the head coach, assisted by Billy Chandler, Jason Norris and Shane Barnes.
