Not many local people can say that they’ve published a book, but Warrior resident Pat Works can.
Works has recently published a Christian book titled “Unrivaled Love.” The book is a look into Works’ spiritual views and deals with various dreams that she has had over the years. Its structure is Trinitarian, with chapters organized based on the Trinity.
“It’s about the love of God,” she said. “The depth of the love of God that a lot of people aren’t aware of.”
Works recently retired after 30 years as a legal secretary and began writing “Unrivaled Love” in July last year. It was published this year through createspace.com. She said she had wanted to write the book several years before her retirement.
Works said her inspiration for book came from dreams she has interpreted as spiritual messages. Some of her close friends, one of them a pastor named Eddie Smith, read the book and provided insight. Works regards Smith as a mentor.
“He said, ‘Everybody’s got a book in them,’” Works said.
Some of the challenges involved in writing was in format and grammar, Works said. The editorial process took effort as she sought help in publishing. After she finished writing she was able to hire two editors from createspace.com to help her put the book together. Her husband, James, took the photo that serves as the cover.
Her influences were the famous British evangelist Smith Wigglesworth and Alice Smith, a close friend of Works who authored a Christian book titled “Beyond the Veil.”
Works is also an enthusiastic writer of devotionals and attends Enon Baptist Church in Morris. She has three children and nine grandchildren.
“I would like for people to understand that God speaks to them,” she said. “God loves them and they say they know that, but they don’t know that.”
Works passed on advice for those who hope to write and publish. She recommended seeking help from peers before attempting to publish a manuscript.
“Believe that you can,” she said. “I would suggest go ahead and write and then find someone who mentors in writing.”
She hopes to write more in the future and is currently developing ideas. “Unrivaled Love” is available for purchase at amazon.com and createspace.com. Most bookstores can order copies of the book for customers.
