Updated: Victim identified in fatal Gardendale crash

A Gardendale man died in a crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. 31 in front of Memorial Park.
Roger Dale Odom, 55, was driving a late-model pickup truck northbound when he went out of control near the intersection with Payne Road at about 3 p.m. According to eyewitness reports, the truck crossed over the median strip near the intersection, clipping the corner of an SUV before plowing into a steel utility pole.
The truck spun around, coming to a rest in the park in a depression about 25 feet from the monument area.
Odom was pronounced dead on the scene. No other passengers were in the truck, and there were no other injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
