It’s Thursday, and you might want to find an umbrella….

Weather: Boom-boom time again. A storm system is moving in from the west, and should settle in over the metro area late this afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected after suppertime, and should stick around until Friday morning, with rain chances tonight around 80 percent. The Storm Prediction Center has us under a slight risk for severe weather. Highs Thursday will top out in the lower 90s before the clouds roll in, with lows in the middle 60s. Skies will clear Friday around lunchtime and temperatures will cool noticeable, with highs only in the upper 70s and lows in the lower 50s.

Traffic: Again, nothing unusual through the Corridor X construction zone on I-65. The outbound closure of I-20/59 in Bessemer continues; if you’re headed toward Tuscaloosa, keep going south on I-65 through downtown, then go west on I-459.

Publix: coming someday. The sign has stood for a long time next to Fieldstown Road in Gardendale, announcing the pending arrival of a Publix supermarket in the Northgate Village shopping center. But legal issues between the center’s developer and Dollar Tree will apparently delay that opening even further. Dollar Tree was supposed to move elsewhere in the complex to make room for Publix, but problems with the move have resulted in a dispute over a penalty fee owed by the developer, and rent withheld by Dollar Tree in lieu of that penalty.

The postman always robs once. Jefferson County Sheriff Chief Deputy Randy Christian reported that two men masquerading as postal workers robbed three teenagers at their home in a neighborhood between Pinson and Clay. The teens answered the door, where one man said he had a package to deliver, and then had his accomplice enter with a gun. Cash, electronics and cell phones were taken; the pair left in a white minivan driven by a woman. Christian described the robbers as black males in their early to mid 20s.

Sports: Overtime, and lots of it. In the first game of hockey’s Stanley Cup Finals, Anze Kopitar scored a breakaway goal against goalkeeper Martin Brodeur — who was playing in his 200th NHL playoff game — and won the game eight minutes into sudden-death overtime as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1…. Basketball: It took extra time in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals as well, as the Miami Heat came back from 15 points down to take the game to overtime as they knocked off the Boston Celtics 115-111. LeBron James had 34 points and 10 rebounds, and Dwayne Wade scored 23 points, with eight of those in OT. The Heat lead the series 2-0.
