Some teenagers in Kimberly will have to give the devil his due.
Last month, the Blue Devil mascot of Mortimer Jordan High School was stolen by what was suspected as a group of teenagers.
But the metal mascot stolen from the school’s grounds has now been recovered and returned to its original spot at the football stadium. Three Jordan students have been implicated in the theft.
All three have so far denied taking part, claiming that they had found the mascot abandoned in an undisclosed location.
Late last month, the mascot had been removed from its place despite being bolted down to a large barrel. Principle Barbara Snider said that it was likely that the perpetrators used relatively sophisticated tools to unbolt the several hundred pound, steel-plated object.
There were no security cameras at the field at the time, making an identification impossible. Fingerprinting was not an option, as there are already many fingerprints from various students and teachers.
The Kimberly Police Department was unable to pursue the case due to lack of evidence until two weeks ago, when the department was anonymously tipped off on the whereabouts of the mascot. Afterwards, the three students were arrested, and will face disciplinary action from the school if they are proven guilty.
A motive for the theft has still yet be established, although Snider originally suspected that it was not a prank because of the trouble the perpetrators went through.
Because the suspects are juveniles, their names were not released.
