Carrigan “Crash” Fain smacked a two-run home run in the second inning, as Gardendale demolished Minor 17-0 in three innings in the first round of the Class 6A Area 11 Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Sierra Gear, hitting in the bottom of the order, was 3-for-3 with a double and knocked in three runs. Sara Beth Williamson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Bragan Burns was also 2-for-2 with a double and two runs driven in. Chelsey Deloney was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI, and she scored three times in two innings.
Kristin Graham was 3-for-3, all singles; she scored twice and intentionally left third base early to end the game. Taylor Dailey was also 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Minor defeated Jackson-Olin 17-0 to reach the game with the Rockets in the three-team area tounament. The Tigers and Mustangs played again Tuesday evening, with the loser to be eliminated and the winner to face Gardendale for the area title on Thursday.
Win or lose Thursday, Gardendale has clinched a spot in the regionals next week at Liberty Park.
