Rob Huddleston, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 219, recently competed his Eagle Scout project by planting trees at the East Elementary School playground. Huddleston was helped by his fellow troop members as well as Webelos from pack 213, Venture Crew 219, members of the Cullman High School cross country team and other friends and family. The 15 trees planted were Autumn Blaze Maples, which are known to be fast growing, low maintenance and easily recognizable in the fall for their brilliant orange and red leaves. Huddleston attended East Elementary and wanted to do something to help after the tornadoes. He coordinated the effort with David Wiggins, principal, as well as addressing and receiving approval from the Cullman City Council. The Eagle Scouth Project is one of the the last in a number of requirements for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Nationally, only 2 percent of those that start scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. Huddleston has been involved in scouting for 10 years.
