Sanofi Diabetes is hosting the session, which will be taught by Henry Bryan on March 8, 6 p.m., at the Comfort Inn and Suites meeting room.

Brian, a member of the AIC Champions Program, will share about diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies. A1C Champions is a patient-led approach to diabetes education.

Bryan will also talk about his personal experience of living with diabetes. He was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1972, but did not take an active role in managing the disease until 1994.

“I now work harder to eat healthy, balanced meals,” he said. “I test often to know what my glucose readings are.” He also does things like park farther from entrances and get an appropriate amount of exercise.

“Today I know how to treat my diabetes,” he said. “I now know that diabetes is not the end of the world.”

Brian will discuss topics including:

• achieving good glucose control

• learning abut effective self-management

• developing a balanced, healthy lifestyle

• planning and prioritizing diabetes management

• overcoming fears surrounding diabetes

• finding resources for diabetes support

The session is geared to individuals who are struggling with diabetes or have an A1C that is seven percent or above.
