Dorothy Nelson Reed, age, 101, a lifetime resident of Fairfield, passed away on January 30, 2012 at the Birmingham Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born January 13, 1911 in New Boston, Ohio.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Willard Nelson and Minnie Moore; sister, Helen Mattinson; brother, Willard “Bus” Nelson, Jr.; and her youngest son, Dr. Jerry Reed.

She is survived by her oldest son, Dr. Edward Nelson Reed and his wife, Patsy Sloan Reed; five grandchildren, Charon Reed Anderson (Keith), Leslie Reed Dutton (Carey), David Reed (Jami), Jason Reed (Melissa), and Matt Reed (Andrea).

She was a faithful member of Fairfield Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school. Dorothy had a close relationship with the Lord and a positive outlook on life. She always saw beauty in others. She enjoyed spending time with her family laughing and reminiscing, and going on walks.

The family will receive friends at Gardendale Funeral Home on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 11 a.m. until noon, followed by a graveside service at Valhalla Cemetery at 1 p.m., Dr, Steve Potts officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Children’s Ministry at Westwood Baptist Church in Forestdale.
