Bachus won’t seek waiver to keep chairmanship. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R) will not attempt to keep the chairmanship of the House Financial Services Committee next year if he is re-elected. Bachus will not seek a waiver of the Republican Caucus rule that members cannot serve more than six years as chairman or ranking minority member of a committee. Bachus has been chairman since the GOP took over the majority in the House in 2011, and served four years as ranking members under then-chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) Bachus move was widely reported by conservative Internet provacateur Andrew Breitbart, who previously called for Bachus to resign his seat after allegations of insider stock trading. The information was first reported a week ago by National Journal reporter Stacy Kaper, who quoted Bachus as saying that he would not ask the Republican Conference Steering Committee for a waiver.

Crosby, who was acquitted on several charges related to alleged bribes from dog-track owner Milton McGregor, still faced charges in the upcoming retrial on whicvh the original jury could not reach a verdict. Sports: Stewart commits to Alabama. Fultondale High School junior quarterback/free safety ArDarius Stewart, who finished fourth in the Mr. Football voting earlier this month, has put an early end to the recruiting circus surrounding him by verbally committing to play at Alabama. Stewart, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards, passed for more than 1,400 and had a hand in 50 touchdowns last season, was being actively recruited by the Tide, Auburn, Mississippi State, Clemson and Utah. Bama Coach Nick Saban offered Stewart a scholarship at Saturday’s Junior Day in Tuscaloosa, and Stewart committed on the spot. That commitment is verbal and not binding, though, and Stewart will have until National Signing Day in 2013 to change his mind, if he wants. Speaking of Signing Day, that comes this Wednesday, and Stewart’s main passing target, Deundrea Marshall, is expected to sign with Georgia Military College, a juco in Milledgeville, Ga.
Weather: Warmer. Skies will be clear and daytime temperatures warming into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Nighttime lows will stay in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
