Starting on Jan. 4, 2012, the North Jefferson News will eliminate its Saturday edition and will again become a weekly newspaper.

Subscribers will get all of the newspapers they have paid for; all current subscriptions will be extended  by the number of editions left on subscriptions. For example, if a customer has five weeks (10 editions) left on his subscription at the end of 2011, the subscription will be extended by 10 weeks (10 editions) until time for renewal.

The North Jefferson News was a weekly newspaper from 1970 until January 2006, when it became a twice-weekly publication.

“We think our readers and advertisers will be more than pleased with the once-a-week edition. The NJN will continue to have all of the quality, local articles and photos that our readers count on,” said editor Melanie Patterson.

Subscription rates will drop to $25 a year. The rate for seniors age 60 and older will be $22.50 a year.

Base display advertising rates will remain the same.

“The NJN staff loves serving the north Jefferson County area, and we look forward to going into 2012 with a product of which we can all be proud,” Patterson said. “We will be able to dedicate more time and energy to each edition, so readers will see the paper get even better in 2012.”

The North Jefferson News will continue to print at least one Shopper every month, which is distributed at no charge to 18,000 households.

The newspaper will also continue its quarterly North Jefferson Vision magazine, which features all-local content. Magazines are inserted at no charge into subscribers’ newspapers; they are $2 each if purchased at the NJN office.
