Prep basketball: Corner stops Dora; Hayden gets stung by Locust Fork

Austin Samford had 19 points plus nine rebounds and Kyle Moody added 17 points with six steals as Corner defeated Dora 55-45 Friday in boys’ action.

Blake Byrd contributed nine points and 13 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Keliel James led the Bulldogs with 15 points.

Gulf Shores 82, Gardendale 63: At the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic in Gulf Shores on Monday, the host team went on a 19-2 run in the fourth quarter to blow by the Rockets.

Jeremy Gardner and Nathan Sheffield each scored 18 points for Gardendale (6-6). Brandon Silvers had 21 points and Ryan Goodwin 20 for Gulf Shores.

 Locust Fork 61, Hayden 40: The Hornets jumped out early Friday, and took a 13-4 first-quarter lead they would not relinquish.

Seth Aderhold had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Hayden. Clay Smith and Stephen Green scored 16 each for Locust Fork.

Gardendale 44, Minor 43: Trey Evans hit a layup with 25 seconds left Friday, then the Tigers coughed up the ball in the last few seconds to give the Rockets the area victory. Austin Hicks led the Rockets with 11 points.

Gardendale 53, John Carroll Catholic 46: Jeremy Gardner scored 19 points and Austin Hicks 12 as the Rockets prevailed in a Saturday matinee game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Locust Fork 61, Hayden 41: The host Hornets opened with a 13-point run and never looked back to hand Hayden its second loss.

Krista Stricklin led Hayden (11-2) with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Grayson Taylor scored 12, all on 3-pointers. Katie Parr grabbed eight rebounds.
