Christmas is only days away, and there is no lack of events on the calendar to help north Jefferson residents celebrate the holiday.
Churches in particular have a host of Christmas programs planned, but so do other stores and organizations. Residents can celebrate Christmas by participating in any of the following:
• Tuesday: Planet Cellular AT&T in Fultondale has Christmas wish lists available for Arc of Jefferson County residents, which assists individuals with mental challenges. The gifts must be returned to the store by Tuesday. The store is at 1710 Decatur Hwy. For more information, call Becky Parsons at 365-1194.
• Saturday: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gardendale is hosting Christmas Eve services. A children’s Christmas program is at 5 p.m., a candlelight and carols service is at 7 p.m., and a candlelight and communion service is at 11 p.m.
• Saturday-Sunday: Gardendale First Baptist Church will have a Christmas Eve worship service at 4-4:30 p.m. On Christmas day, there will be a 9:15 a.m. worship service and a special baptism service. Both events are at the north campus. The church is also collecting new or gently used winter clothing for the Jimmie Hale Mission. Donation bins are located by entrance doors at the north camus.
• Saturday-Sunday: Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas celebration on Dec. 24 with Christmas carols, scripture and communion at 5 p.m.; contemporary praise and communion in the gym at 7 p.m. and Christmas carols, communion and candlelight services in the sanctuary at 11 p.m. On Christmas day, there will be a 10 a.m. family service in the sanctuary.
