Basketball: Restoration Academy burns Torches

The Tabernacle Christian boys basketball team was out of its league Thursday night, both literally and figuratively.
Restoration Academy, a power in the Alabama Independent School Association, dominated the Torches with their physical play as they scored a 74-42 victory.
The Bulldogs battled with the Torches on the inside early on, but Restoration guard Detario Whorton took advantage and started to connect from the perimeter. He finished the game with 28 points, including five 3-point baskets.
Jarius Thomas also scored 13 points for the ‘Dogs.
Wes Felix led the Torches with 14 points.
In other boys action:
Hayden 84, Susan Moore 35: Josh Niblett scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds plus three steals and the Wildcats led 60-19 at halftime.
Daniel Southwell added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Darien Craig had 11 points for Hayden (1-1).
Tristan Price led the Bulldogs (0-2) with 12 points.
Tabernacle Christian 60, Brooklane Baptist 27: Fred Goodgame led the Torches with 28 points Tuesday night in Hueytown. Carson Dabbs had 12 points and seven rebounds.
GIRLS
Hayden 69, Corner 22: Krista Stricklin had a different kind of double-double, with 33 points and 10 steals as the Wildcats (6-0) dominated the Yellow Jackets on Friday.
Katie Parr and Grayson Taylor scored 10 points each, and Lori Swann added eight points and seven rebounds for Hayden.
Andrea DeBord led the Jackets (0-1) with 10 points, including a pair of 3-point goals.
Hayden 61, Susan Moore 28: Krista Stricklin led the Wildcats with 22 points, seven assists, seven steals and three blocks Thursday, as her team ran up a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Grayson Taylor and Rosalee Aderhold scored 10 points each, Katie Parr had 11 rebounds and Lori Swann grabbed 10.
Audelia Hernandez led Susan Moore (0-1) with eight points.
