The Alabama High School Athletic Association has just released its biennial reclassification of schools, and the five local AHSAA member schools will stay in the same classes as they have for the past two years.
The AHSAA will retain its current six-class status, after considering a separate class for larger 6A schools.
In football, all regions have been changed around a bit:
Gardendale: in 6A Region 6 with Carver, Hewitt-Trussville, Huffman, Mountain Brook, Shades Valley, Vestavia Hills and Woodlawn. The Rockets stay closer to home and don’t tangle with the three Tuscaloosa-area schools anymore, but pick up formidable foes in Vestavia Hills (the clear region favorite) and Mountain Brook
Mortimer Jordan and Hayden: in 5A Region 6 with Center Point, Curry, Moody (up from 4A), Pinson Valley, Springville (back up from 4A), and Walker. Cullman and Hartselle shift to other regions, and the outlook for the Blue Devils and Wildcats is much more favorable for post-season play.
Fultondale: in 2A Region 6 with Ohatchee, Pleasant Valley, Ranburne, Victory Christian-Pell City, Vincent, Walter Wellborn and Woodland. The Wildcats move back to an eight-team region after playing in a nine-team arrangement for two years.
Corner: in 4A Region 4 with Bibb County, Calera (up from 3A), Dallas County, Dora, Jemison, Oak Grove and West Blocton.
