- Hayden’s Krista Stricklin (12) fires the third of three straight 3-point shots as they beat Cullman 54-42 at Homewood on Saturday morning.
Hayden fans couldn’t ask for a better start, as they begin their 2011-12 season with three straight wins in the Homewood Veterans Day Tournament last week.
The Wildcats defeated Cullman 54-42 in the final game of the round-robin competition Saturday, after knocking off Thompson 69-53 on Friday afternoon and blasting McAdory 60-36 on Thursday.
“They grew up a lot in this tournament,” said a happy coach John Simmons after the win over the Bearcats. “Cullman was really rangy. Krista [Stricklin] had a string of threes that broke it open,” he said.
Three straight 3-pointers, to be precise, in the second quarter by Hayden’s standout guard, who finished with 28 points. With 19 points in the win over the Warriors and 27 against McAdory, Stricklin is already averaging 24.7 points per game.
Cullman (1-2) drew as close as five points in the second half before Stricklin took control with 10 fourth-quarter points.
After tying 11-11 in the first period, the Wildcats ran past Thompson in the second with two treys each by Grayson Taylor and Rosalee Aderhold. The Cats led by 10 at halftime.
Taylor scored 19 points, Aderhold 11 and Lori Swann 10 against Thompson. Katie Parr scored 11 points versus Cullman.
