Local pro bass anglers Randall Tharp and Gerald Swindle came up short in last weekend’s FLW Open event on Lake Guntersville.
Tharp finished 31st in the event, catching 10 fish for 26 lbs., 7 oz. Swindle placed 40th, with two limits at 24 lbs., 9 oz.
Both were way behind Paul Elias of Laurel, Miss., who used an “Alabama rig” — a six-lure contraption that looks like a school of shad to bass — to reel in a whopping 1021/2 lbs. over four days and claim the $100,000 top prize.
Bob Behrle of Hoover was a distant second.
Swindle and Tharp each won $10,174.
