The gala will be headlined by comedian James Gregory. Aaron Box, a Rotary member and organizer of the gala, said Gregory’s contract states the comedian’s material is family friendly.
In recent years the money from the gala often went to the construction of Miracle Field, but now that it’s complete the focus has shifted to Cornerstone Ranch, located on Powder Mill Road at the former site of the Dupont Powder Plant.
Rotary also funds other local and international projects. The club is working on small projects, such as helping elderly and handicapped with household projects and a joint venture with Mt. Olive Elementary to fight polio. The club has also worked to send water filters to Haiti and Nicaragua since earthquakes devastated the countries in January.
The gala will still have its traditional $10,000 prize drawing. A $250 ticket gets two people into the gala and one name into the drawing. First, the Rotary draws 20 names, then proceeds to eliminate one name at a time until five people are left.
Those five have the option of unanimously deciding to split the pot or to continue eliminating names.
Box said local businesses have also donated door prizes.
