The Tigers (6-0, 4-0 in Class 5A, Region 6) utilized explosive plays offensively and an overpowering defense to remain undefeated and win their 11th consecutive region game. Six different players scored touchdowns in the first half, including one on defense and Hartselle limited West Point to 54 total yards before halftime.

“Hartselle’s a very good team. They are No. 2 in the state for a reason,” said West Point coach A.J. Lamar. “The results were simple. Hartselle wore us out in all phases of the game.”

Hartselle converted a fourth-and-5 for a touchdown on its first possession and never let up. Tigers’ quarterback Deacon Aldridge hooked up with Connor Shelton for a 29-yard touchdown strike on the decisive fourth down, and Gavin Marsh added the extra point for a 7-0 advantage less than three minutes into the game.

Aldridge found Jeston Thompson for 50 yards on the opening play of Hartselle’s next drive and Sidney Steele followed with a 1-yard score. An extra point extended the lead to 14-0 with 6:58 remaining in the first quarter.

West Point halted Hartselle from scoring on its next possession, but the Tigers closed the first quarter with a 55-yard touchdown run from Masio Stover.

Hartselle’s Dax Gillespie intercepted West Point’s Bryant Farley early in the second quarter and returned it for a 42-yard touchdown, extending the advantage to 27-0 after the extra point failed.

The Tigers added two more scores before intermission. Blaze Lawrimore had a 15-yard touchdown reception from Aldridge and Blake Slayton contributed a 1-yard scoring plunge.

Mark Laney accounted for West Point’s initial points of the game, kicking a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, cutting the deficit to 41-3.

Dalton Wren rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown in the second half for the Warriors (1-5, 0-4). Wren had all seven of his carries in one drive, capping it with a 1-yard touchdown with 47.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
