Church rebooting, starting with mass auction

CrossPointe Church in Fultondale will auction off its property and the entire contents of the church in one mass auction on Sept. 22. The proceeds will go towards finding a new, possibly smaller home for the congregation.
CrossPointe had been considering merging with another church, Fultondale First Baptist, since October. After much consideration, Fultondale First Baptist backed out of the merger in May, according to Greene.
Greene said both churches’ congregations had been dwindling for a number of years. CrossPointe’s facility was too large for the congregation size, and the merger was supposed to be a way to combine both congregations into a single church that would have probably met at Fultondale First Baptist’s location.
Although it’s possible that the church could move outside of Fultondale, Greene said it would try to settle in a new location that isn’t far from its old one.
The CrossPointe campus is around 60,000 square feet, with a gymnasium, daycare, classrooms and offices and a sanctuary that seats over 600 people.
In addition to the standard kitchen appliances, office equipment and furniture, other items from the church up for auction are a 1997 70th Anniversary edition K. Kawai piano and a 1995 Blue Bird bus.
The auction is open to the public. A preview of the real estate will be on Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The other items for sale can be previewed beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.
