Cullman 40-0, Hayden 0: Wildcats try to find offense in Bearcat rout

Hayden traveled to Cullman to take on the Bearcats to open 2011 Class 5A Region 6 play. The home-standing Bearcats came away with a 40-0 win.
Cullman’s Kyle West took the opening kickoff 83 yards for a score. Collin Glasscox added the point-after to give the Bearcats a 7-0 lead with only 17 seconds off the clock.
Cullman extended the lead on the second play of the second quarter when quarterback Zachary Crocker hit Troy Forrest for 30 yards and a TD.
The Bearcats added another touchdown before intermission on a one-yard run by Justin Keiffer.
Cullman attempted a run for two points but was stopped short. The halftime score read Cullman 19, Hayden 0.
Cullman added a 29-yard field goal by Glasscox early in the third quarter to go up 22-0. The field goal was set up by a fumble returned to the Wildcats’ 7-yard line.
The Bearcats failed to score a touchdown on three running plays inside the 3-yard line. The defensive line of the Wildcats stood strong and forced the field goal attempt.
After another Hayden turnover, this time an interception, the Bearcats were in business inside Wildcat territory.
Running back Drew Johnson capped the drive with a run from nine yards away. The kick failed, but Cullman had a 28-0 lead with 6:19 remaining in the third quarter.
Cullman forced a Hayden (1-1, 0-1) punt on their next possession, and found pay dirt when Crocker threw his second touchdown of the night, this time to Mason Jones for seven yards.
Cullman’s backup quarterback Tyler Glenn connected with Connor Moon for 38 yards and a score midway through the fourth period. The run failed but the Bearcats had a 40-0 win over the Wildcats.
Hayden’s Seth Haggenmaker had two catches for 26 yards, while Jared Hargett had four catches for 14 yards and Adam Carlton had three for 19 yards.
Quarterback Corey Ward was 24-12-0 for 100 yards for the Wildcats.
The loss drops Hayden to 1-1, 0-1, while Cullman improves to 2-0, 1-0. Next week the Wildcats host the top 10-ranked Hartselle Tigers at Robert W. Reid Stadium.
