Volleyball: Corner opens season with tri-match split

The high school volleyball season got under way Thursday, as Corner split a tri-match with Fultondale and host Oak Grove.

The Yellow Jackets swept the Wildcats 25-19, 25-23, then fell to the Tigers 25-8, 25-11.

Corner, playing under new coach Christy Leigh, were led by a pair of freshmen. Hannah Reeder had seven kills for the night, and Sam Pinion served nine aces. Senior setter Amy Jaggers had 11 assists, and juion Lille Blackmon tallied four kills and seven aces.

The Jackets travel to Sumiton Christian on Tuesday.
