That loud sigh of relief you might have heard Thursday probably came from Mortimer Jordan head football coach Greg Watts.

After weeks of delays and a threat that the school’s new football stadium would not be ready to use for their opening two home games of the season, Watts got the news he was waiting for: The new Blue Devils Stadium is officially ready to be occupied.

Building inspectors gave the school the green light after one last once-over on Thursday.

The go-ahead means that the new facility will get its debut this Friday night, as the Devils host Pinson Valley.

The school had contingency plans to play its first two games at Jimmie Trotter Stadium if the new stadium didn’t pass.
