Survivor fighting cancer against the odds

Beverly Morse of Gardendale was told three weeks ago that she possibly had only six weeks left to live.
Despite that, she sees no reason to lose hope.
“I’m just too stubborn in my faith to give up,” she said.
Morse, 28, has been fighting cancer for six years.
She was first diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments put the cancer into remission, but it reappeared in August 2010. She had a hysterectomy that same month.
Then in April 2011, doctors discovered two cancerous tumors the size of oranges on her right ovary. So they removed that organ.
Now four tumors have appeared on Morse’s left ovary, three of which are the size of golf balls. She is scheduled for surgery Aug. 3 to have the ovary removed.
To make matters worse, one of the tumors ruptured recently. Morse said this caused radiation from previous cancer treatments to spread throughout her body, which doctors said could cause her organs to shut down.
“I don’t want to give up,” Morse said. “I believe God can do anything. But if this is my time to go, I trust Him and His plan.”
Chick-fil-A in Gardendale is helping Morse with surgery expenses by hosting a fundraiser all day Wednesday. If customers mention Morse’s name, a portion of the proceeds go to Morse. She will have to pay $1,500 for the surgery after her insurance pays its part.
In addition, Morse said people from her church, Gardendale First Baptist, have helped by donating items such as diapers.
She has three children, ages 9, 2 and 1.
