Staci Simon Glover will sign copies of “Coal Mining in Jefferson County” on Saturday, 1-3 p.m., at Walgreens in Gardendale.

The book is in the Images of America series published by Arcadia Publishing. “It has 200 photos and 128 pages covering mines, miners and communities throughout north and western Jefferson County,” said Glover. Included are Lewisburg, Brookside, Cardiff, Sayreton, Bradford, Banner and other communities.

Glover used photographs from the Library of Congress, the Alabama Department of Archives and History, the Birmingham Public Library archives and private collections.

Glover is an adjunct history instructor at University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of History and Anthropology.

Coal Mining in Jefferson county is Glover’s first widely published book.

The book is available for purchase at Walgreen’s and other stores, for $21.99. It is also available at www.arcadiapublishing.com.

Glover will have other book signings at various locations throughout the summer.
