Sherry Webb owns and operates Webb Payroll, Edgewire Digital and T-Lor Properties, all based in Gardendale.

How did you come about starting your own business?

I was in a position at a payroll company in 2004 and they were sold to another company. I had the choice to go to the new company or start my own business. I’ve been doing payroll for around 30 years.

Webb is our biggest company. We do payroll in 22 states, for 300 clients, and we do paychecks for about 18,000 people a year. We aren’t just a payroll company, we actually become the payroll department for our clients.

Tell us about your family.

My grandson, Bronson “Little Dean” Taylor is my world. He’s a lot of fun. I put a pool in at my house last summer so that I could swim with him. He also played on the Gardendale Gangstas teeball team over the spring, and it was fun to watch him hit the ball and run the wrong way around the bases. We go on day trips, too. I also have a son, Dean, that works with me.

Did you grow up in Gardendale?

Yes, I grew up in Gardendale, and Dean went to school here. My family’s all close to Gardendale.

Do you have any other interests?

I love playing games on Facebook. I need more Facebook friends!

Is it hard to manage three businesses?

It’s not hard, because of the people I surround myself with. I have partners that help me with my businesses. Dean helps me run Webb. Great people are running each operation.
