Abnormal Easter outfit has a purpose

We recently celebrated Easter with family and friends. As the Easter rush came upon us, my church was busy preparing for an Easter drama/illustrated sermon. An illustrated sermon is when you have portions of a drama and then a message from the preacher and then more drama.

We love to do these because they leave a lasting impression of the drama with the solid truths of the Word. In this particular play, I had the opportunity to play the role of Diablo (the Devil). Although I had gotten carried away with shopping one day and bought an Easter outfit, it was not to be worn on Easter. On Easter this year I had the privilege of wearing a red and black cape, jet black and spiked hair, red gloves with feathers and smoking a rather fake cigarette.

The black lipstick seemed to throw off all of the nice visitors that had chosen to come to The Church Revived on Sunday. The play went great and there were many who moved in the service. After the second service, it was finally time to take off the five inch heels and return to some degree of normalcy. My girls were both scared of Mommy because I yelled pretty loud in the play and they were not very happy about that, so when I took off the cape and the gloves, they were much more pleased to have a somewhat normal mom. But the crazy hair and the horrible make up made it all the way to the family get together.

I wish everyone could see the look on my Granddaddy’s face when I walked in the house on Easter looking like a gothic demon. He just started laughing, which tells you that we have a great family life around there.

The hair was so stiff and painful that I didn’t even want to mess with it until later. We had gotten to the church at 6:30 a.m. and tired is an understatement for what me and the girls were feeling by the time lunch was over. But in the spirit of things, we decided to head to the yard for a ferocious game of badminton. I felt pretty normal by then and it seemed to be a great game because my team was winning, but then my teammate, my dad, turned to me and started laughing and said, “I can’t take you seriously with that hair do of yours.” So it was at that moment that I realized that it was time to get back to some form of normalcy for the remainder of this Easter holiday.

After washing my hair for about 30 minutes I had most of the red out and people weren’t looking at me like I was going to steal their souls. But for the first time in my life, I can honestly say that I had the worst looking Easter attire in the world on a bright and beautiful Easter morning.
