As of noon Thursday, U.S. Hwy. 31 in Fultondale south of Walker Chapel Road was closed to traffic.

Interstate 65 through Fultondale is now open, after being closed in both directions Wednesday due to downed trees and power lines.

Fultondale Police Chief Byron Pigg said two of the city’s highest priorities right now are getting U.S. Hwy. 31 opened and clearing roads leading to neighborhoods, many of which are still blocked from trees, debris and power lines.

Officers have also been conducting a “knock and talk” in neighborhoods – going door-to-door to check on residents.
