“The Miracle League is not doing any soliciting for any type of fundraisers,” said Jeff Dennis, Gardendale Miracle League founder and president of the board of directors. “We were never selling Cokes, never going door-to-door soliciting.”

Miracle League is an organization that provides specialized fields and volunteers to help special-needs children play ball.

According to Dennis, victims said the suspect was taking her young son as she knocked on doors, saying he played for the league. He added that she was telling people to write checks made out to her, saying she was a “team mom.” Dennis said the woman is not affiliated with the Gardendale Miracle League.

Detective George Billits with the Warrior Police Department said detectives have interviewed the suspect, but is not releasing her name because no arrests have been made.

Detectives have also taken statements from several people who were approached by the female suspect.

Dennis went to the police station Thursday evening to file a report. He said three people entered the station in a 15-minute time frame to make a complaint against the alleged scammer. He added also that “phone calls were flooding in” with complaints about the suspect.
