For the first time in many years, two members of Gardendale’s football team will play on the North team of the annual North-South All-Star Football Game, to be held July 14.

Vansant, a 5-foot-10, 252-lb. stalwart of the Rockets’ defensive line, joins Cantrell, whose 6-foot-3, 270-pound presence on the offensive line helped give quarterback Dallas Tidwell time to work last season. Both are seniors.

The selection was announced last Friday.

The game, sponsored by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches  Association, will be played at Montgomery’s historic Cramton Bowl.

The two Gardendale players are the only ones selected from the North Jefferson area.
