The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Jefferson County, with particular emphasis on the northern portion of the county, including Gardendale, Fultondale, Morris and Kimberly. The warning is in effect until 9 p.m.

At 8:45 p.m., NWS said that trained weather spotters reported a large tornado on the ground near Sumiton, moving east toward the Gardendale, Brookside, and Fultondale areas at 40 miles per hour. Morris, Kimberly and Warrior are north of the path, but may experience large hail.

Earlier, NWS radar has indicated a possible tornado southeast of Jasper, and moving southeast generally along Corridor X/I-22. Large hail has been reported all throught the southern part of Walker County.
