In other business, the council:

• discussed putting a 75-80 foot guardrail along a ditch on Morris Majestic Road. Morris Police Chief Bryan Cochran said four car wrecks in four years had happened on that stretch of road, including a recent one that left a teenager trapped in his overturned vehicle for an hour-and-a-half while authorities freed him.

• announced a fundraiser for the Morris Fire Department. The department is partnering with a professional portrait studio, who will be going door-to-door selling $40 portrait packages. Anyone who doesn’t wish to have a portrait taken can donate the money at the fire station. They are also going to have their annual boston butt sale. The department has an upcoming Insurance Services Office (ISO) inspection; the inspection’s rating will determine the department’s insurance premiums, and better equipment could garner a better rating.

• approved the purchase of a capture pole for the town street department for wild or unruly dogs at a cost of $200.

• listened to a presentation by County Line resident Sue Calvert about a protest against plans for a dump in County Line. Calvert said the dump would have negative effects for people within 20 miles of the dump, which includes Morris. Calvert and others are organizing several formal protests, one of which will be today at County Line Town Hall at 9 a.m.

• Listened to a presentation about Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s upcoming Ride For Kids on Sept. 11. Registration for the ride begins at 8 a.m. and starts at 10 a.m. at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham. Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation representative Stacy Ashby said the organization is the largest non-government fundraiser for pediatric brain tumor research.
