Residents will see some noticeable upgrades soon at Black Creek Park in Fultondale.
The Fultondale City Council on Monday accepted a bid of $30,800 from Penn Electric to upgrade lighting at the park.
Parks director Phillip Loden said 20-22 lights will be installed at each of the two fields, in addition to replacing bulbs in the existing lights.
Loden said the city has plans to start adult softball leagues and church leagues.
The city will also soon start construction on a new concession stand at Black Creek park, which will be at the opposite end of the parking lot from the Fultondale Senior Center. Loden said it will have a similar design to match the senior center.
Plans for the park also call for new fencing and new dugouts similar to the ones at the athletic complex next to Fultondale Elementary School.
Work is also progressing on a dog park at the corner of Stouts and Fulton roads, near the children’s park.
Loden said there will be two open areas for large dogs and small dogs.
In other business, the council:
• authorized Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into an agreement with Alabama Power Company for installation of a street light at the CrossPointe church facility at 1009 Walker Avenue
• authorized Lowery to enter into an agreement for $4,200 with ECO Group Inc. for a maintenance program for a retention basin behind Lowe’s
• accepted transfer of an Alcoholic Beverage Control license for retail beer and wine for the Gas Stop Inc. to Fultondale Chevron Inc., at 620 Decatur Highway
• accepted a business license application for Just Rite Printing Company, to be located at 903 Decatur Highway
The next Fultondale City Council meeting is March 28, 11:30 a.m., at Fultondale City Hall.
