Walgreens hosted the meteoroglogists, anchors and other staff on Wednesday in response to a declaration by Alabama Governor Dr. Robert Bentley that makes Feb. 20-25 “Tornado Awareness Week.”

The event was also sponsored by Midland, who manufactures the most common weather radio in the United States. The weather radios air special emergency broadcasts when severe weather is impending, as well as other emergency information. The radios must be programmed with a regional code, which is what the Walgreens and WBRC-6 staff was doing for most of the day.

Store manager Mary Hyke said people came from far beyond north Jefferson, from places such as Dora, Sumiton, Centerpoint and Forestdale.
