Deputy Chief Randy Christian said deputies went to the residence to investigate reports that the resident, John Posten, was in possession of stolen property, including guns.

“Deputies also had information that the resident had threatened to shoot any law enforecement officers that came around his property,” said Christian. Despite that, Christian said deputies took Posten into custody without incident.

While searching, deputies confirmed the presence of possibly stolen property, including lock sets and electrical parts. They allegedly also found significant amounts of chemical ingredients used to manufacture meth and the remnants of several old meth “cooks,” as well as a relatively new one.

“Deputies also found that the suspect was growing hallucinogenic mushrooms for spores purchased over the Internet,” said Christian.

Posten is charged with two counts of unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance; his bonds total $1,000,000. Christian said the investigation is ongoing, and that the sheriff’s office expects to charge him with several counts of receiving stolen property.
