The project is part of an effort by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a non-profit organization that provides insurance for Lutheran churches. Their goal is to build 1,000 homes by partnering churches in areas where homes are needed. Each house costs roughly $100,000 to build; the organization provides $90,000 and the church teams are tasked with raising the remaining $10,000 to $15,000. Good Shepherd’s share is $1,000.

Thrivent partners with Habitat for Humanity to choose families to receive the houses. The house in Center Point is being built for Michelle Hatcher and her two sons: Jamison, 15, and Timothy, 9. Michelle. Mishelle works as a presser at a dry cleaning store, and also volunteers at her sons’ schools.

The groundbreaking for the home will be this Saturday at 148 Martin Drive in Center Point.
